Current Programs

The Green Living Centre started out as The Watershed, a joint initiative of Marrickville Council and the City of Sydney, and was located on King Street Newtown. The shopfront closed in 2017 and we continue to operate out of Petersham Service Centre, as an initiative of Inner West Council.

Green Living Centre Workshop Series

The Green Living Centre workshop series aims to educate, upskill and empower residents of the Inner West Council area to live a more sustainable lifestyle and reduce their carbon emissions. We deliver workshops and webinars in our focus areas of energy, waste, food and transport. Topics include solar for houses and apartments, home energy efficiency, food waste avoidance, gardening including food growing, composting & worm farming, as well as a variety of craft, upcycling and repair topics.

We have two upcoming webinars:

Solar for Strata and Haystacks Solar Garden Info Session.

Events

Green Living Centre events includes talks, seminars and clothes swaps. We have held kids’ toy and clothes swaps and adult swaps, such as the Rethink Your Wardrobe panel discussion and clothes swap in 2019. We also regularly hold Solar and Battery information nights for local residents to enable them to approach the installation of solar and/or a battery on their home with confidence.

Festivals

Green Living Centre staff regularly attend festivals throughout the year including the Dulwich Hill Village Fair and Summerhill Neighbourhood Feast. When these festivals recommence we’ll let you know where you’ll find our stall and we can share our knowledge with you.

We also work with the Events team to manage Inner West Council’s annual Footprints Ecofestival in August each year. This year we held Footprints Online on 29 August. You can still catch up on the podcasts and videos at Footprints Online on Inner West Council’s website.

Community Leaders in Sustainability

The free Community Leaders in Sustainability course connects attendees with others in our community, and gives them the chance to learn from experts and transform their ideas into action.
