Wild Edibles in the Inner West
September 30 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pmFree
You will never look at weeds in the same way again after taking part in this free talk.
Wild food expert Diego Bonetto will discuss common edible and medicinal plants that surround us all. Diego will give insights into the abundance of native and non-native edibles thriving in spring. He will share knowledge about common weeds like Chickweed, Dandelion, Sow Thistle, Flatweed, Farmers Friends, Sorrel and Purslane.
At this webinar you will hear:
- local stories of plant resilience woven with cultural trivia, migrant perspectives and First Nations wisdom
- the role weeds play in repairing and building soil and how they have been used for food, craft and natural remedies
- ways to safely harvest from the urban wild and enrich your diet with vitamins and minerals.
This workshop is designed to provide participants with skills in plant identification and re-learning old stories while paying respect to public and ancient resources. We can’t take you walking with us but we can help identify what wild foods to look for on your next local walk.
Each participant will receive a booklet detailing some of the most common wild edibles of Sydney.
Diego is an edible weeds advocate based in Sydney, most famous for his offering of urban foraging workshops. Building on the knowledge acquired while growing up on a farm in Italy, Diego introduces people to the ever-present food and medicine plants that surround us.
