Introduction to Native Bees
November 16 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Come along to this workshop to learn about our amazing local native bees – Tetragonula carbonaria. They are stingless, social and also known as sugar bag bees. On top of that they are amazingly interestingly and great to have as part of your garden ecosystem as they are perfect pollinators for a variety of plants.
You’ll learn all about what these special bees need, how to attract them to your garden, how they make honey and all about their lifecycle. Our local bee expert, Gavin Smith will talk through setting up your own hive and demonstrate splitting a full hive.
You will have a chance to taste the honey and leave knowing how to provide habitat for this native species and how to become a beekeeper.
Gavin is a member of the Amateur Beekeepers Association and is a dedicated educator and a committee member of the Sydney Bee Club and the Inner West Beekeepers.
