We’ve had another wonderful year at the Green Living Centre, sharing our knowledge and experience with the Inner West community to inspire you to take action on environmental issues. We ran workshops, events and our ever popular Footprints Eco Festival. Here are some of our favourites.
January – We started the year with our highly popular Solar Assessments program. A great opportunity to sit down with an expert to find out if solar is right for your home. February – Our beeswax wraps making workshop at St Peters library was a great success. These wraps are an easy, safe replacement for plastic cling wrap. March – EDGE lit up the GreenWay at Haberfield with art, lights and sustainability. We were there with natural crafts, sustainable home design and helping you connect with nature. April – We teamed up with Newtown Neighbourhood Centre for a Kids (0-5) toy and clothes swap. Over 250 items were swapped, saving them from going to landfill. May – Partnering with Wear Aware, we asked you to “Rethink your Wardrobe” and took over Petersham Town Hall for a clothes swap and panel discussion about sustainable slow fashion. June – Petersham Bowling Club hosed our Go Solar Session where four experts presented the ins and outs of getting solar. July – We had a crowd for our Compost and Worm Farming workshop at Haberfield Library. It’s great to see such interest in composting, and keeping food scraps out of landfill. August – A beautiful day saw the 10th annual Footprints Eco Festival return to Whites Creek. Our program covered sustainability workshops and activities for adults and children; talks and discussions; a reuse hub and local businesses selling eco-wares and food. September – We took our pop-up kitchen to the Summer Hill Neighbourhood Feast and had great conversations with local residents about energy, water and food waste reduction. October – At Pocket City Farms we teamed up with University of Sydney Wastefighters and Cornersmith to talk to young people about ways they could reduce food waste in the kitchen. November – We visited Rozelle Bay Community Native Nursery to talk about the importance and needs of native bees. Our expert Gavin Smith demonstrated how to split a hive and the ongoing care of local resident bees. We all enjoyed the tasty honey. December – Time to thank the wonderful volunteers who helped us at events throughout the year! We really appreciate your contribution to our programs.
